When is the best weather to visit Egypt?

Egypt has a high temperature all year round, but some months are almost unbearable for most tourists. The best months to visit Egypt are between September and November, where you can enjoy the heat whilst still being able to explore the temples and wonders of the ancient world. Temperatures vary, depending on if you’re staying in the north or south of Egypt, where the difference can be up to 10°C or 50°F.

Diving in The Red Sea

These months are also perfect for diving in Egypt, with many resort towns offering dive excursions in places like Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada. The Red Sea is a comfortable 30°C/86°F around this time, and offers some of the best diving spots in the world. Where else can you dive and explore the underwater ancient ruins, as well as spectacular coral life.

September

For those who prefer heat, and plan to have a relaxing poolside stay in an all-inclusive resort, you may prefer September. Temperatures in Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada are an enjoyable 31°C/88°F on average, which is hot enough to believe you’re in the desert, but also enjoy the sights and wonders.

Giza is a very similar temperature to Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada, so you could even add in a trip to the Pyramids. Places like Luxor and Aswan might be too hot in September though, with temperatures reaching 40°C/104°F.

October – November

This is our choice when it comes to the best months to visit Egypt if you plan on visiting more than one place. The majority of Egypt is still very hot, easily sitting around 30°C/86°F. This is perfect for enjoying the resorts or exploring the many temples and Ancient discoveries around Egypt.

The more southern parts of Egypt such as Luxor or Aswan are hot, but bearable with highs of 35°C/95°F.

Temples of Luxor

Most hotels/shops/restaurants in Egypt have air conditioning, and so do the tour buses. This makes traveling to places like the Valley Of The Kings or Abu Simbel possible, although the end of November will give a slightly cooler trip if you prefer.

Temperatures in the northern city of Alexandria are still high in October, before dropping to a cooler 24°C/75°F in November and bringing 29mm of rain throughout the month.

Rainfall

Rain in Egypt is not something you have to worry about for most of the year, with most of the landscape being covered in the vast Saraha sands. If you’re heading to the northern areas of Alexandria or Cairo in the late winter months (Jan-March) then you could see some rain. In the past parts of norther Egypt have actually experienced floods.

If you don’t mind the chance of rain in places like Cairo & Giza, then this can be a great time to get cheaper hotel prices and shorter queues at tourist attractions. The average temperature in December is a mild 20°C/68°F, which can make for some pleasant days exploring.

When is the most popular time when visiting Egypt?

The most popular months to visit Egypt are October, November and December. This is due to the milder weather throughout the majority of the country. It’s also worth noting that December is when most Egyptians have their holidays, so if you’re looking to avoid the crowds then this may not be the best time for you.

If you want to avoid the crowds then aim for January-March or April-May. These are considered the low season where hotel prices can be up to 50% cheaper. Be aware that during spring, the dust from the Sahara can blow across the country and reduce visibility, so check the weather forecast before you travel.
